Dumber than Dirt

Know-nothing politics has reached its zenith [or nadir?] with Sarah Palin. It's amazing to watch her in action. She has no clue what she's talking about, ever.

For instance, in Florida today, she lashed out at Barack Obama for his claim that he didn't know about Bill Ayres' background when he first met him. Because Palin is clairvoyant, she knows that this is a lie. And she continued from there:
You know, what's next? Claiming that he didn't know two of his biggest supporters were running Fannie Mae, the sub-prime mortgage giant?
This is so dumb. First, and most obviously, Fannie Mae is not a "sub-prime mortgage giant." Sub-prime mortgages are, by definition, those that do not conform to Fannie and Freddie's guidelines. That's the whole point.

Second, John McCain has received far more money from Fannie and Freddie executives and lobbyists than Barack Obama ($169,000 to $16,000, according to the New York Times). And McCain's campaign adviser was on Freddie Mac's payroll until last month. He provided no services to the company, but his consulting firm was paid $180,000 a year for the sole purpose of maintaining access to John McCain.

I'd say that Palin is lying here, but I honestly don't think she knows enough to be lying. I guarantee you she has no clue what Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac actually do or how they fit into the current crisis.
Digg!

A quote from Neitzsche comes to mind:

"No one is such a liar as the indignant man."

Palin's passionate, factually flawed rants remind me of Bob Dole screaming to crowds "It's your money!" Like him, she seeks indignation about imagined faults based on a mistaken ideology. In so doing she signals the demise of the McCain campaign.

I have come to the conclusion that Obama should not fight fire with fire.

The danger at this point so close to the election is to lose the middle: "There're each as bad as the other" suits McCain, and a low turnout is what he is hoping for.

Ok, he has the Keating stuff on the web. He has to seek the moral high ground and I hope he does that tonight. After all, the debate is about the economy.

So if asked about Rezko or Ayers, he should start with a dignified rebuke "There are folks out there hurting because they can't pay their mortgage or have lost their job. I am really surprised the moderators chose a question like this which is basically a time-waster and takes away from valuable time we need to discuss what to do about out economy. But since you ask, ....".

The best thing at this point is to ignore Palin. It is different from a month ago. Then she was riding high in the polls. Now she is the most unpopular candidate of the four, and Obama should not reduce himself to her level.

Obama's approval rating is high, and wall-to-wall Palin on the media will no more hurt this popularity than wall-to-wall Monica Lewinsky hurt Bill Clinton.

I'm actually inclined to cut Palin a little slack. She is nothing but a talking head reading from the teleprompter. Any retired Alaskan sportscaster could have done the same. It is a trifle sad, however, that she probably actually believes the bile and spleen she is called on to regurgitate. Even McCain isn't that clueless...

The establishment press needs to simply stop broadcasting her stump speeches if they're not going to be allowed to ask questions. This is ridiculous.

A.L.,

Curious to hear your thoughts, re: Has the Leadership become the Base? Has the Republican party come full circle? The dolts who they "need" in order to win elections are now running the party, eh?

Freddie Mac did get stuffed with about 20% Alt-A mortages. It actually purchased them as CDOs from investment banks in 2006 and 2007.

I wonder who was able to stuff that crap in before the crash.

It's code mein freund. Freddie/Fannie are the evilbig government that takes your tax pittance and gives it away to "Welfare Queens". You see, Joe 'Whitey' Sixpack can't get a mortgage with his job history and his utter lack of skills...but some mythical urban dweller can. Because of BigGubmint.

Funny how most of the troo beleveers are from the South(on the dole since the Civil War) or Alaska (your tax dollars at work.

My take on the Freddie and Fannie execs who did contribute to Obama and other Dems is that they are the few execs who want the grownups to be in charge again.

Lies and projection---Republican tactics. She is saying whatever she is told to say, and banking on ignorance, bigotry, and a compliant media to work in the favor of McCain-Palin.

I would bet, oh, several hundred dollars, that Sarah Palin had never heard of William Ayers in her life before Clinton dug up his past on national TV. I can suggest an easy way to settle the bet, too:

Ask Sarah Palin to name the other members of the Weather Underground and to explain the name of the group. It is impossible that she would have known of Ayers' background before it became national news, and not have also learned those facts.

Any takers?

Oh, wait, that's right, we can't ask her, because she's avoiding the press. Good thing she's not running for public office with an attitude like that.

If we could ask Palin, though, I think we could give her a second chance to get one right, after I win my bet. An easy one: name one member of the Senate who was publicly rebuked for ethics violations as part of the notorious "Keating Five" banking scandal. I bet she could manage that one.
