Republican Convention Live Blogging
10:00 p.m.: Bush really phoned that in. I just watched it and I don't even remember what he said.
10:10 p.m.: That Reagan tribute was pretty weak too. I could have done better.
10:13 p.m.: Does Fred Thompson realize that in defending Palin, he's railing against people like....Fred Thompson...and John McCain.
10:14 p.m.: I hope Fred Thompson points out what an obnoxious "celebrity" Barack Obama is.
10:16 p.m.: I keep expecting Thompson to tell me that John McCain "doesn't take a dump without a plan."
10:18 p.m.: I can't believe I thought this guy was going to be the Republican nominee.
10:20 p.m.: I just changed channels and realized the networks are ignoring Fred. Ouch.
10:23 p.m.: Okay, now they're showing him.
10:24 p.m.: Apparently we can trust John McCain because he was a POW. Fred Thompson says so.
10:26 p.m.: NBC just cut away again to ask Olympia Snowe about Sarah Palin.
10:27 p.m.: That giant screen in the background is distracting. Suddenly ginormous pictures of McCain appear and look like they're going to devour the speaker.
10:28 p.m.: Thompson just took a dig at Obama for giving foreign speeches that "appeal to America's critics." That's pretty weak.
10:30 p.m.: Apparently Barack Obama is the "least experienced" candidate to ever run for president. Do Republicans really believe that? Do they remember the resume of our current president when he took office? And what about Sarah Palin?
10:32 p.m: Wow, that abortion attack was pretty despicable. Talk about taking a quote out of context.
10:34 p.m.: Fred says he's not here to talk about "policies"; he's here to talk about the "man behind the policies." That pretty much sums of the Republican approach to campaigning, doesn't it?
10:38 p.m.: I wonder if any of the delegates in the convention hall realize that the kinds of torture Fred Thompson just described were authorized by the prior speaker, George W. Bush.
10:41 p.m.: Joe Lieberman has the charisma of a sack of rocks.
10:42 p.m.: Lieberman is railing against partisanship. Did he just listen to the last speech?
10:43 p.m.: "What is a Democrat like me doing in a place like this?" Answer: you're not a Democrat. And you desperately crave attention.
10:45 p.m.: I wonder if Lieberman realizes that he's praising McCain for the very things the people in the crowd hate about him.
10:48 p.m.: I think Lieberman is boring the crowd to death.
10:49 p.m.: Immigration? Global warming? Campaign finance reform? Dead silence.
10:50 p.m.: "Barack Obama is a gifted and eloquent young man." Good grief. How clueless is this guy?
10:51 p.m.: Did the crowd really just clap for Bill Clinton?
10:52 p.m.: How do you know Lieberman has no principles left at all? He just endorsed Sarah Palin, someone who has absolutely nothing in common with him ideologically and whom he knows nothing about.
10:54 p.m.: He just accused Obama of wanting to cut of funding to troops on the battlefield. I hate that so much. So much for sticking to the positive case for McCain. He's criticized Obama at least as much as he's praised McCain.
10:56 p.m.: Uh oh. Lieberman is speaking "directly to Democrats." He's making the case that in this election, after 8 years of epic failure, Democrats should switch parties and vote for the Republican. Good luck with that pitch. Democrats hang on your every word, Joe. Just tell us what to do and we'll do it.
10:58 p.m.: It's hard for me to put into words how little respect I have for this guy. What a clown.

So, you'll do anything if someone will pay you? Such a typical lawyer. No wonder you remain anonymous with such disgusting drivel.

huh? If you're referring to the little "about me" paragraph on my blog, you're clearly not the brightest person. Needless to say, I'm not offering up my opinion to the highest bidder. I'm merely pointing out that writing about politics doesn't pay the mortgage. So until it does, I'll have to keep my day job.
to the first commenter, the same double bird I was giving Lieberman on the TV.
a.l. no point in replying to that jackass.
@first commenter
Stay in school, kid.
"What is a Democrat like me doing in a place like this?" Answer: you're not a Democrat. And you desperately crave attention.
I can't wait to defeat John McCain so he can take Joe down with him.
BUT Omg, what was Thompson's nonsense on deficits, on dysfunctional congress, etc. I mean, really. Proof that Republican and Facts don't mix.
Plus the attack on attorneys is ridiculous.
Lieberman telling ME, who has watched the Repugs stonewall progress in the Senate with the filibusters they railed about, to quit voting for party over country is INSULTING! Democrats don't vote as a BLOCK. Maybe I should post the vote tallies on EVERY bill to help us ordinary Joes. Repugs don't THINK; they blindly follow their party leader - BullyBoy Rove - to what end? As Georgie Porgie stated "to make our party a permanent majority.". How'd THAT work out for you, loyal Bushies?
When Repugs, like the abuse-of-power Palin, are in trouble, who do they call? - those darn lawyers. Maybe if all defense counsels stopped defending the people who hate them (Repugs), the Greedy Old Party members would ALL finally be where they belong - in prison. OOPS! I forgot, that's where a lot of them already are or have been.
I listened to Hannity say last week how there was no energy at the DNC and it was all falling apart. The DNC I watched had more energy than a Super Bowl. The RNC I saw last night put me to sleep. I didn't make it past Fred. I thought Guliani was going to speak later, but I couldn't hold any longer. What a drab.
So far the RNC event looks more like a wake than a convention ... the funeral of the former Republican Party (now just a sloganistic theocratic shell focused on personalities over issues). When they pan the audience it looks so tired, old, and white. Their pinched faces are locked in the self-righteous, smug, phony grins of those who knowingly lie to serve a "greater" purpose. R.I.P.
I second Dean P above. When Thompson started going on about the ruinous deficit I almost fell out of my chair. Seems to me that "we" turned over a budget surplus, and the R presidency, R congress, and R senate ran up this ruinous deficit, all on their own.
But the delegates cheered anyway. GOP (n): a fact-free zone.
