No Complaints This Time
Bill Clinton's convention speech was, as it always is, exceptional. I don't think the Obama campaign could have reasonably asked for more from him. No one that I've seen in my lifetime is better at framing economic issues and explaining the basic difference between Democratic and Republican policy. He's a truly gifted politician.
No complaints here.
UPDATE: Wow. John Kerry was excellent. I thought the approach he took to attacking McCain was very effective. Too bad the cable networks were too busy yabbering to cover the first half of his speech.

UPDATE II: Biden was very good too. He was actually more substantive than I was expecting. I was expecting more soundbites and less policy. But I think it worked. Biden has a gift for sincerity that I think really comes across well on television. He's an effective spokesman and character witness, and he has a compelling life story. I just hope people were watching.

My wife and I both loved Bill Clinton's speech. One particular line stood out for us, which I'll paraphrase:
"People around the world are more impressed by the power of our example rather than the example of our power."
I completely agree, Dan. That was the best line.
Yes! I love that line too, Dan.
Clinton and Kerry were great! And Biden, though less eloquent, was wonderfully effective. His message was aimed at the folks we really need, and if I know anything about people, he communicated well with those of those folks who were tuned in. I hope lots were. He attacked McCain very effectively not viciously but on the issues.
This was a great night to be a Democrat. Please God, let America be listening.
Democrat nominees always make their speeches four years too late, don't they?
yep, good night.
I just wanted to make sure you caught this:

It's McCain behaving in a manner which, if Obama did the same, would effectively end his campaign, or cost him no less than three weeks of explanation.
Yep, AL, no complaints here either. Bill was great and in many ways his speech actually helped me to better understand what you found missing from Hillary's. I still don't completely agree, but I do apologise for bandying about terms like "PUMA-sque" & "internecine" regarding your post.
The speech that really knocked my socks off tonight though was Kerry's! Maybe he benefited from the low expectation factor, but...WOW! He was fierce! Best night of the convention, by far.
Now let's just hope that Obama proves 'virginia conservative' as wrong tomorrow night as Kerry's ferocious eloquence proved him partially right tonight...
I'm sure Obama will give a great high flying speech at the Barackcropolis tonight. That's his shtick. But I think people are getting just a little tired of it.
VC,
By "people," I think you mean "conservatives who are jealous they don't have a compelling candidate of their own." The reality is that most Americans haven't been following the political horserace all that closely. They're just starting to tune in. And given that they've had to endure 8 years of listening to the least articulate president in modern history, I doubt their "getting tired" of listening to someone who can actually deliver a compelling speech.
And by the way, I'm sure you remember that Bush delivered his 2004 convention speech on a stage adorned by even bigger greek pillars.
You're telling me they weren't following the Democrat primary? As much as that was covered?
Maybe they've already tuned in and Obama isn't closing the deal, since he is either tied or behind in the national polls.
"And by the way, I'm sure you remember that Bush delivered his 2004 convention speech on a stage adorned by even bigger greek pillars."
I guess Obama is just as arrogant as you think Bush is, then. Ok, good luck with that.
