Greek Columns!?!!!

Right wing bloggers are all going crazy right now over a report that Obama will be giving his acceptance speech on a stage adorned with greek columns. A typical response: "A Greek temple for the Messiah!"

Yeah. Just like this famous "Greek temple":

And this one.

And this one:

And this one:

Why is our political discourse so stupid?
Digg!

Because half of Americans are idiots and the right wing media encourages them.

Yeah, the football stadium stunt won't look good in a McCain attack ad! Not at all!

I'm looking forward to those ads.

Because God has punished us and doomed us to never discuss anything of substance. Simple.

AL, I must seriously disagree with you. This is a bigger gaffe for Obama than the 7 houses deal was for McCain. This is perfect material for late night TV jokesters and reinforces McCain's major theme. Good god, tear down the columns NOW. People are already asking whether Obama will be wearing a toga to the speech!!

Briefman,

It's possible that right wing idiots will succeed in poking fun at Obama for this, but it's hardly a "gaffe." I suspect the final stage was supposed to look like the Lincoln Memorial (because they were both from Illinois and because it's the 45th anniversary of MLK's dream speech). It was probably going to be draped with American flags as well. The end product would not have looked "Greek" at all, but quintessentially American. What's unfortunate is that a picture of the half-way constructed set leaked and our political reporters dumb enough to run with even the stupidest right wing taunting.

Proclaiming himself the new Martin Luther King is a little, well, arrogant, no?

You're right, VC, proclaiming yourself the new MLK would be arrogant. But that's not what I said and that's not what he's doing. I just said the backdrop was meant to be symbolic. It will be the 45th anniversay of that speech and a black man will be delivering his acceptance speech a major party nominee for president. That's a big deal. It's historic. MLK would be proud. As would Lincoln.

What Virginia Conservative meant to say is that Obama's proclaiming himself to be the new MLK Jr would be "uppity".

See what happens when you put words into people's mouths?

Playing the race card in only the second response to my point.

That must be some kind of record.

Tell me, was Lloyd Bentsen calling Quayle "uppity" when he told him he wasn't John Kennedy?

Clearly, sarcasm is lost on you. You put words into Obama's mouth. I put words into your mouth. This is generally referred to as 'proving a point'.

But, if you want to talk about setting records, we can start with your record-setting dimwitted statement about Dan Quayle. Because it brilliantly illustrates your profound lack of understanding of how racial and gender stereotypes actually work.

Ok, so anytime I say Barack Obama is being presumptious I'm a racist. Got it.

This is going to be a painful four years if he's elected.

Me: "I think President Obama's health care plan is wrong."

Liberal: "RACIST! RACIST!"

LOL! It´s really funny to see what problems people seem to have or how keen they are to find something to trash-talk about. Absurd, but funny:D
