Caricature Meets Reality
Watching the Obama family in that adorable, unscripted moment after Michelle's speech, you can't help but be struck by the enormous gulf between the ridiculous caricature of the Obamas that Republicans have constructed and the reality of who they actually are. Can anyone who watched that still believe that Barack Obama is some sort of foreign quasi-terrorist? Or that Michelle Obama is some sort of militant black nationalist? That was a quintessentially American family up there on that stage, much more so than any other high-profile political family I've seen in a similar position. I just hope voters were watching.
UPDATE: Huffpo has the video clip of Barack talking to Michelle, Sasha, and Malia after Michelle's speech.

Didn't you love the way that little girl kept interrupting to say, "I love you, daddy!"
What a beautiful family.
Apropos of an earlier thread which is now closed, I just came across the following quote from Howard Dean (from this January):
“This is a struggle between good and evil and we’re the good.”
Amen, A.L. And very similar to my reaction on The Limb. I hope America got a good look at the Obama family last night -- those few moments will go a long way toward countering the ugly caricatures.
good lord, that was the cutest thing ever.
