Dispatches from the Right-Wing Parallel Universe
Over at the aptly titled "Hot Air" blog, Ed Morrissey highlights a statement Barack Obama made while visiting Mt. Rushmore and asks:
I know your question was intended to be rhetorical, Ed, but allow me to answer it anyway. The reason your "doofus narrative" isn't catching on is because Obama is, by every conceivable metric, an incredibly smart guy. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Law Review and graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude. I know that might not be very impressive to someone who goes by the name "Captain" and writes blogs posts for a living, but trust me, you have to be exceptionally intelligent to accomplish such a feat.
And need I remind you, Captain, that the current occupant of the White House is quite possibly the biggest "doofus" ever to hold such a high office. Remember, Ed, this is the baseline from which Obama will be measured:
How many “potatoe” moments does it take for the media to start a doofus narrative on a candidate?Apparently the whole thing about Obama being an Ivy League elitist is old news. The new talking point is that Obama is dumb.

I guess we should cut Ed some slack - Barack's statement would be best described as self-effacing... a trait hard for some to even recognize. When was the last time we had a president who could poke fun at himself?
Is "captain" just mad and blowing it off cuz shillary's campaign is all but over?
After all, she is the candidate of kkkarl rove and rush limbaugh and she was doing such a fine job "catapulting" racist propaganda, even going so far as to build on the assassination meme that hucklebee started just 2 weeks ago.
Guess Bush's MBA makes him smart, jsut like Obama's degree makes him smart. Right?
So Bush was editor of the Harvard Business Review and graduated magna cum laude? I wonder why he doesn't play up those accomplishments.
Business Review versus Law Review. You can wing it, so it speak through the former, but not the later.Whatever brains Bush had probably took a good beating from twenty years of alcoholism - being the son of an elite powerful family takes its tolls. What excuse does the Bush Cult have for their deep lack of knowledge and their constant substitution of nationalism in place of real patriotism who knows. One would think they would show their appreciation to liberals for winning two world wars so they wouldn't have to learn to speak German or Japanese, but humility and gratitude has never been their strong suit.
A.L.,
Speaking as a SciFi aficionado, I have to object to the term "parallel" in reference to the universe in which Captain Ed and his ilk dwell. Such a universe would have only tiny differences with our existing universe, perhaps due to some event, such as a flip of a coin, which turned out differently. This might produce subtle, yet profound, differences, in the resulting timelines, but would not result in one universe where sanity prevails and another where dim intellects like Captain Ed are regarded by anyone other than the kind of people who read Hot Air for anything but comic relief.
The closest analog that exists in "literature" to the relationship between Hot Air and the rest of the universe is the relationship between Bizarro World and the world of Superman.
My advice, based on hanging out at Captain's Quarters (where Ed used to blog before he moved to Hot Air) is: don't get any of the stuff on you, and make sure you aren't followed back.
