Joe Lieberman is a Disgrace

Thank you Connecticut voters for returning this insufferable gasbag to the Senate:

Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, the independent who sided with Republicans in agreeing not to take up the resolution, called the proposal “a resolution of irresolution,” saying it criticized the president’s plan but did nothing concrete to stop it. He goaded colleagues who opposed the buildup to take more definitive action if that was their view. “Have the courage of your convictions to accept the consequences of your convictions,” he said.
Is there no limit to this man's hypocrisy? He lectures his colleagues about having "the courage of [their] convictions" and then sides with a bunch of Republican senators who are desperately maneuvering to avoid having to go on the record with their views about the most important issue this country faces. Lieberman voted against cloture. Where's the courage in that Joe? Don't you want to stand up and be counted?

And speaking of "accept[ing] the consequences of your convictions," when was the last time the courageous Senator from Connecticut owned up to any of the disastrous consequences his policy toward Iraq has wrought? Lieberman has been wrong every step of the way in Iraq. His predictions have been wildly off the mark. His advice has been consistently awful; his description of events delusional. And yet, he continues to take no responsibility for it. He continues to demonize those who were right and bully those who dare to criticize the President's policies.

And now he joins forces with those who are anxious to quell any serious debate on Iraq. And he does so while simultaneously chiding those who take their civic responsibilities seriously, accusing them of lacking the courage of their convictions.

Well, to hell with that. Joe Lieberman, you are an absolute disgrace.
Digg!

Any comment on the Times headline that the GOP blocked debate? It is clear from the text that the Dems blocked debate on the GOP resolution, too.

No, there's no comment on the Times headline, Maguire, because you have the "avoid the real issue by parsing irrelevant media coverage" market all locked up.

Tom, if you honestly believe that the GOP wants to "debate" this issue, I've got a bridge to sell you. It's transparently obvious that the GOP would like nothing better than to drop this topic altogether. But since the Democrats won't do that, the GOP is trying to have votes on many different resolutions so as to dilute the vote and, therefore, dilute the impact of the vote. They don't want to have a debate. They want to avoid having to go on the record with their actual views.

No doubt in my mind, Joe is a traitor. But what am I supposed to think about the people who elected him? Are they traitors too, or just stupid? Gullible? What?

While we all just keep standing around and disagreeing about what is going on and what should be done about it, a civil war is beginning. Maybe the people of CT aren't shooting at me yet, but they did launch a Liebermissle at any who oppose the president and his holy war. For now this is civil war by proxy.

I watched some of the Senate debate today (Tuesday), in which both sides discussed the surge plan, the stifling of debate on Sen. Warner's resolution and others, and so on.

I heard Sens. Dodd, Kerry and Nelson discuss the troops, the Iraq situation and government, the strategy, past blunders and current lack of credibility.

I heard Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri deliver one of the most prodigious loads of demagoguery this side of Rush Limbaugh, or of last year's GOP drive to brand anyone not in line with Lieberman's pro-war fanaticism a "cut-and-run" loser.

Bond didn't discuss Iraq, the war, the plan or the need for political accommodations over there. Bond was there to bash and trash everyone who doesn't unquestioningly support President Bush's latest bad idea.

As if anyone has any objective reason to support Bush about anything, given the man's record of deceit and error.

Lieberman may be the poster boy for diehard, mindless devotion to Bush's Iraq blunder war, but he's by no means alone in that. The anything-to-win Republican stalwarts in Congress are still following the same drill they've practiced ceaselessly for the past six years.

Their current bit of demagogy is if you don't support Bush's surge plan to the max, you're telling our troops you don't support them or care about them.

Like the Hapsburg emperors of old, these neocon Republicans learn nothing and forget nothing.

AI, you don't understand. Lieberman does not think that the Pres's policies have been a disgrace. Nor do I. They obviously have not worked out perfectly, but the story of Iraq is not yet finished and a modified strategy -- even perhaps the surge -- might ultimately prove effective.

I think you are letting blind rage toward Lieberman get the better of you here with this post.

Well, between Barney the dog and Bush himself, that makes four of you.

They obviously have not worked out perfectly, but the story of Iraq is not yet finished and a modified strategy -- even perhaps the surge -- might ultimately prove effective.

If only wishes were ponies. Blind hope is not a strategy. And to say that Bush's policies "have not worked out perfectly" is perhaps the understatement of the millenium.

I think you are letting blind rage toward Lieberman get the better of you here with this post.

Lieberman sucks, but there are plenty of other people I hate more. And the point of my post was only that Lieberman is a condescending hypocrite. What he said would have been consdescending and hypocritical even if "the surge" was the best idea ever.

All Senators discussing Senate debating parameters can't help but coming off as condescending and hypocrtical. Senate debate on any topic -- but especially foreign policy -- is a farce.

UGH. I just heard about Lieberman's loser resolution, and I'm glad to see other people thinking the same thing as me.

But, don't thank Connecticut - thank Lieberman. He knew there was a desperate Republican attempt to grab hold of the Senate - and that he'd get Republican support if he kissed the right butts. Well, he did. And the Democrats threw him out. Dems, being the morons they are, split in half (typical) and what do they do? They help the Republicans VOTE IN A REPUBLICAN IN A DEMOCRAT'S CLOTHING. Lieberman's the worst pile of **** Senator in the entire Senate. And you know what? Don't blame it on us here in Connecticut. I didn't vote for that Loserman - every year I've been able to vote, I've voted AGAINST him. I've told every single person I can talk to what a pile of garbage Lieberman is - I've made every possible attempt to badmouth that idiot - and do my part to aid in getting him out of office. Why doesn't it work? I don't know. Maybe it's AIPAC - pulling their strings (of course, they've got their Senator planted here in CT. I'm SO SICK OF LIEBERMAN. Damn, when are people going to wake up to this disgraceful traitor, loser, whiny-butt-kissing idiot? My hopes aren't up.

Butt kissing idiot. That's the most appropriate description of ole Joe I've ever heard. I just finished watching him at a bipartisan energy bill press conference. THE FIRST THING OUT OF HIS MOUTH was "The Republicans could have loaded this bill poison pills and killed it, but the didn't" Now, we should bow down and kiss the feet of the Republicans when the don't obstruct legislation? Are you serious Joe? That's the first thing out of his mouth? He's not a man. He's a panderer. Shameless, evil, self-absorbed, without a shred of anything that resembles a spine.
