Congrats to the Longhorns
If any of you missed the Rose Bowl tonight, you really missed something amazing. It was hands-down the best football game I've ever seen. And it ended with the underdog coming back from the dead and winning in dramatic fashion (and earning me 100 bucks!). It will be a long time (maybe ever?) before we see another title game of that quality, in any sport.
And by the way, if Vince Young enters the draft, Houston would be crazy not to pick him first. Forget Reggie Bush. Young was a man among boys in that game. It was like he had some sort of force-field around him. He didn't seem to be moving all that fast, but no one from USC ever seemed to get very close to him. It was ridiculous.

Well, you must have missed the OSU-Miami game three years ago: (if memory serves) 3 overtimes, several lead changes, Miami last second field goal to send it to overtime, in overtime OSU converted an impossible 4th and 11 to stay alive and them got a 4th and goal pass interference call without which the game would have ended (with Miami running out on the field thinking they had won it). Last night's game was great, but that one was better.
I disagree. That game was a great one, and I remember it well. But I thought this one was better for a few reasons:
1) The overall quality of play was higher. More acrobatic plays, more impressive individual performances, bigger stars, higher scoring, etc.
2) The game ended in regulation not in that strange, artificial overtime structure where the clock is stopped and everything feels so unnatural.
3) This game had the improbable come from behind at the end.
4) Miami was in no way involved in this game.
We can agree to disagree, though.
On the overall quality of play... I think that's only true if you worship offense. The defense in the second half (and much of the first half) was pathetic--Texas simply got run over (which no self-respecting defense ever allows to happen). Were it not for a few bonehead plays by USC, they would have scored 2 or 3 more touchdowns. Granted, the offensive talent last night was phenomenal, but so was Miami's in 2003 yet OSU did not allow itself to be run over in the least. (But yes, we can agree to disagree.)
As a Pac 10 fan, I can say I was overwhelmed by Vince. Wow.
On the other hand, Vince did get away with one on that non-reviewed forward lateral. Did it make a difference? Who knows?
On another tact, keep up the good work, AL. "Long-time" reader, first time "commenter."
