The Webbies? The Bloggies?

Forget the Oscars. Forget the Pulitzer prize. It's time for the most eagerly anticipated awards of them all, the 2005 Weblog Awards.

Actually, I had no idea there even was such a thing until today. The categories are kind of strange and I have no idea how the sponsors of the awards decided what blogs should be in the running for each award, but it's still an interesting idea, so I took the time to vote in a few of the categories. In the Best Blog category, I voted for Kevin Drum (though Andrew Sullivan was a close second). For Best Liberal Blog I chose Jeralyn Merritt (second choice, Matthew Yglesias). For Best Conservative Blog, I went with Tom Maguire (runner up, Greg Djerejian). Conspicuously absent from the list of nominees are Digby and Bob Somerby. In Bob's case, I can understand. Over the last year his blog has morphed from a media blog into an education policy blog. It's still quite good, but it's very different. As for Digby, though, there's just no excuse. He's one of the more distinctive voices out there and consistently produces top quality work.

Anyway, if you have a second, go vote. There seems to be a bit of a conservative tilt to the voting so far, so more left-of-center votes are needed.
Digg!
