The Koufax Awards

This morning (via Memeorandum) I came across a link to the Koufax Awards. The Koufax Awards--named after the famous left-handed pitcher Sandy Koufax--were created to recognize outstanding work by left-of-center bloggers. Unlike the Weblog Awards, which I linked to a while ago, the Koufax Award categories actually seem to make sense. And a quick perusal of past winners convinced me that--however the selection process works--it works pretty well. The right people seem to win.

The site is now accepting nominations for the 2005 awards. You can leave a comment at the site or send them an email. In looking through the nominations submitted so far, I was flattered to see this blog mentioned quite a few times (and totally unsolicited) in the 'Best New Blog' and 'Blog Most Deserving of a Wider Audience' categories. Thank you to those of you who did that.

I thought I'd take a second to suggest some further nominations:

Best Blog: Digby, Kevin Drum

Best Blogger-Pro Division: Kevin Drum, Matt Yglesias

Best Blog Community: TPMCafe

Best Writing: Digby

Best Series: The Left Coaster on the Niger Forgies, Andrew Sullivan on Torture and Abuse of Detainees

Best Single Issue Blog: The Daily Howler (although I guess it's now two issues: media criticism and education policy)

Best Group Blog: Tapped, Reality-Based Community (Mark Kleiman & friends)

Most Deserving of Wider Recognition: The Reaction--Michael Stickings

Best New Blog: Unclaimed Territory--Glenn Greenwald

Best Commenter: PollyUSA (always providing helpful links)

Anyway, if you have chance, go submit a nomination.

Thank you, A.L. That's very kind of you. I realize that the Koufax Awards are, like all awards, something of a game (and that most of us will lose!), but I wish you the best of luck.

I also want to say thanks A.L. for the kind words.

Don't know if you noticed, but I nominated your blog last week. Good Luck.
