Evolution vs. Intelligent Design: Case Closed
The New Republic posted a lengthy piece today by Jerry Coyne, a professor at the University of Chicago, that it is the ultimate primer on the issue of Darwinian evolution vs. "intelligent design" theory (the article may be accessible by subscription only). In clear and accessible prose, Coyne provides a highly-detailed historical and analytical framework for understanding evolutionary biology and the ideas put forth by its critics. I honestly don't see how any rationale human being could read this entire article and not come away entirely convinced of both the vast explanatory power of evolutionary theory and the intellectual poverty of its ostensible rival, so-called "intelligent design" theory. It is easily the most comprehensive and persuasive treatment of the issue I have ever come across. It should be required reading for all Americans.
