Operation Wingnut
"The reason why we are doing it is we are sick and
tired of seeing and hearing headlines by the
mainstream media about our defeat in Iraq."
She then adds this priceless bit of wingnut logic:
"War is war, and it's dangerous, and the killing is taking
place all of the time. At the same time, where there is
danger, there is success and there is a mainstream media
that is determined to shut out that success."
In a final bit of unintentional irony, this mission is being billed as the "Truth Tour." Unfortunately, as Morgan and her colleagues' statements make clear, the "truth" in this case has been pre-determined. Indeed, it's unclear why they even need to travel to Iraq if they already know how well the war is going and are so sure that the mainstream media is deceiving the public. It would be one thing if they merely professed doubt or agnosticism as to what was being reported by the mainstream media, but no, they "know" that everything they see on television and read in the paper is a lie (sidenote: considering that every branch of our government is now controlled by conservatives, it's stunning how high the level of paranoia among conservatives remains).
I'm not sure what's more depressing: the fact that a significant percentage of Americans get all their news from right-wing propogandists, or that those propogandists aren't even very good at what they do. It's pathetic that so many people can be duped by such third-rate hacks. Note to Melania Morgan: if you are going on a trip to discover and report the "truth," save your conclusions until AFTER you get back. It's more believable that way.
