The Afghanistan Test?

My previous post, "The Evolution Test" has been cross-posted all morning at TPM Cafe and has received a number of comments. One reader writes the following:
"A liberal litmus test? Probably the best one is
to ask about the need for war and the maintenance
of military forces. Answers on these topics usually
differentiate between those liberals who have their
feet on the ground and those whose head is way off
in the clouds somewhere."

As other readers pointed out, however, a general "military test" isn't all that workable. Views on issues of war and military preparedness in the abstract are difficult to parse through, and doing so would defeat the purpose of having a quick and easy litmus test. So why not be more specific? How about an "Afghanistan test"? Although Karl Rove and company always do their best to obscure this point, most serious-minded liberals supported our military intervention in Afghanistan following 9/11. But not all liberals did. There were a number of Kucinich-types who came out against intervening in Afghanistan. A survey of liberal opinions on that military incursion might work well as a rough-and-ready litmus test. It's just a thought.

Back to the topic of evolution, check out the results of the latest Harris poll on the subject, which a reader at TPM Cafe was kind enough to link to. According to the poll, 64% of Americans believe that "human beings were created directly by God." Only 22% believe that "human beings evolved from earlier species." That's thoroughly depressing.
Digg!
